For beginning students, I like to start from Essential elements, Suzuki 1, or Piano Adventures. Students will also likely have a theory workbook or worksheets that match the level of their current repertoire. Intermediate students, we will start using a program called smart music that plays the accompaniment for pieces that we are working on. Further into my education I took internships in music therapy working with many different populations. I gave therapeutic music lessons to patients in hospitals like Massachusetts General Hospital, Worcester Recovery Center and McLean Hospital. There I ventured into teaching guitar and voice. As technique improves, so will the sound. I work on intonation and a good bowing arm technique. I can play and they repeat. It helps that I can accompany on the piano if one is available, but if not, the students can listen to me play to help with intonation. Having access to the CDs allows the student to progress at his own speed with an always available accompaniment that makes things SO much easier than it is having to play all alone. Read More
