For my beginning students, I typically start with either Essential Elements 2000 for strings or Sound Innovations. Both books give younger students a grasp on the fundamentals of technique. As they grow I then introduce solo repertoire by using the Suzuki Books but also like to add a fiddle book. Sometimes students gradually go either to fiddle or to classical. For students who specifically want to learn fiddle or banjo, I would mostly focus on learning by ear as I believe that conveys the style in the most authentic form. For classical students, we can work from the suzuki method books, but without strictly adhering to the teaching method. I began teaching in 2020 during the pandemic. My experience during then was mostly through online lessons. During these lessons, I organized group sessions for students and recitals where they were able to showcase their ability. In 2021 I began lessons in person and also expanded to teaching bass as well. My former students currently are members of their youth orchestras as well as musicians in some of the local bands. I initially decided to study piano and violin performance but changed my focus to education and teaching.
