I began playing the piano when I was 5 and started with the Suzuki method on violin when I was 7. I went to a performing arts high school where I played in orchestras, chamber ensembles, and had theory classes half the day, and regular classes the other half. I also took lessons from Frank Huang, the current concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic. I have been actively teaching violin, viola, cello, and piano since 2002. There were only a handfull of students to whom I taught for two weeks in the summer. The program has grown tremendously since then; now offering lessons in piano, voice, bass, cello, viola and violin. I am now teaching a three week intensive as an extension of this program twice a year. My studio has grown to about 40 students, most of which are returning students each time. The student does not need to develop exceptional musicianship, but they are required enough interest in developing musical skills. Musical education is as important as developing math or language skills in developing the mental abilities in children. Studying in a special music school in Russia, I was required to take pedagogy classes as well as children's psychology and other education related classes. In addition, I was teaching younger students and assisted my teacher's lessons with younger students. During my college years, I was teaching privately students of all ages. For young beginners, I encourage lots of participation from parents because it helps children feel supportive and it is always nice to see how much they grow.
