I like having my students take advantage of any school/local recital opportunities that might arise as it provides great experience. My students get to choose some of their repertoire and lesson content as it makes it more enjoyable for them. I do require all students to play scales as they provide an essential foundation for all that they will play. I studied in Spain, where I won several chamber music competitions, until 2007. When I was 19 I moved to London to continue my studies at the Guildhall School of Music Drama with professors Sven Arne Tepl and Rachel Roberts where I attained a Bachelor of Music with Honours 2:1. In 2011 I was finalist in the Max and Peggy Morgan Competition. Not everyone learns in the same manner. My lessons include theory, technique, solo repertoire, ear training and performance preparation. Performance is an art form and takes preparation and practice. Before anything, I find out what the goal of the lesson is. I always want to know what the students want, so I can plan around them. The lesson will always be about the student! After discussing the goal of the lesson, we will find repertoire, etudes, or other materials that either benefit the student technically, or will simply be enjoyable to the student. Since the goal of the student can either be anything, including playing professional recitals, or simply playing a Taylor Swift song from the radio, my priority will be that the student is enjoying their craft. I have served as a judge for several violin competitions throughout the country, including the CAL ASTA Solo Competition and The Chamber Music Institute's summer concerto competition. As a member of the American String Teachers Association, I also regularly attend conferences and seminars to further my own knowledge as a violin teacher.
