I am teacher for about twenty years. I love challenges and exploring new possibilities. I like to motivate my students by giving them various music material to play. This way the student achieves playing different music songs/pieces within shorter period of time. However, if some student needs to concentrate on a single piece for an extended amount of time-then I make sure that we work on all details regarding to technique and melodic elements of this particular piece of music. I've also found that a combination of classical and popular music can go a long way in helping students enjoy any string instrument and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I am not doing my job! I thoroughly believe in the practice cycle. If a student practices well, they get better, they want to play more, and they practice more. Read More

As I teach a wide variety of instruments, I can only give a short explanation on each instruments road map, However! My classical strings students will all be started in the Essential Elements book 1. Upon completion of said book, all strings students will then move to the Suzuki books to step from beginner to intermediate strings player. Should the student grow bored of said books, I also provide a plethora of outside material to create fun challenges with more familiar music (pop tunes, video game music, easy arrangements of orchestral works, etc.) if the need arise! Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music and want to continue to play the violin not just as a hobby! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson and knowing the strength behind private lessons as opposed to group lessons only. The student is more likely to progress if they are consistently practicing and have private lessons with their teacher to develop technique and skill in a one-on-one learning environment. Read More

After college, where I acquired extensive experience as a performer, I decided to dive into teaching. I am a fairly new teacher (six months experience), and it has been quite exciting to formalize my methods as I find the style that best suits me and my students. What I have learned most in my time teaching is the importance of games, challenges, and performance opportunities to keep learning fun and to motivate students to strive for that next level. For adults, I would still use Essential Elements because it does help with reading music, basic violin technique, bow hold, etc. Suzuki is a must because Suzuki is the best! I learned all of the books, and Suzuki's learning methods helps so much! As time progresses, solo repertoire will be introduced and the student will begin learning from Wohlfahrt etude book. Remember, with anything great it takes time. Practice makes PROGRESS! Read More
