I also have taught workshops and masterclasses around the country. In 2018, I taught a beginning music class through the Morse Fellowship program at Juilliard. I have found in my time teaching that everyone learns differently. Aquiles Navarro is a New York-based trumpeter, composer and DJ of Panamanian heritage. He derives his sounds from folkloric music, salsa, and reggae. This eclectic music background, based on his upbringing in Panama has led him to collaborate with folkloric musicians, dancers, visual artists, actors, and poets. He studied in Panama with tenor player Carlos Garnett and trumpeter Victor “Vitin” Paz. After moving to the US, he received a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Performance at the New England Conservatory, and a Master’s degree from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami where he studied with trumpeter Brian Lynch. It is a very special experience to be able to see a student progress. Depending on the frequency of the lessons, I will set goals for the student to reach by the time the next lesson occurs. I always make the goals realistic for the student and I try my best to make the goal something that the student will enjoy. I began teaching privately in high school when a family friend had asked me to teach their beginner son music and trumpet. Since then, I have had the opportunity to teach all sorts of people ranging from as young as 6 years old, to 64 years old. Something I prioritize in my teaching is the development of efficient problem-solving skills. This is such an important skill to me because I firmly believe that if a student is unable to learn and discover things without my help as a teacher, then I have effectively taught them nothing. For high school students, I assign a program of etude study, orchestral excerpts and solo work appropriate to their skill level to prepare them for competitive honor ensembles and college auditions. A Texas native, Clynt grew up exposed to a variety of music. The southern influence of blues, gospel, country, and jazz were a huge part of his musical upbringing. While his formal training was largely in classical music for many years, he also remembers learning his first tunes note-by-not from his father (a jazz and country musician) in their living room in Texas when he was not out of elementary school.  Having experienced both formal and informal training methods all of his life, he is adept at providing either - or any ratio - of the two to a student in need.
