Originally from Houston, TX, I began my music studies in 2010 and graduated from Sam Houston State University with my Bachelor's degree in Music Education. I went to earn a Master's degree in Music Performance from the University of Houston in 2017. I recently moved to New York City after being accepted into the Manhattan School of Music's Professional Studies program for classical trumpet. In October of 2018, I won the 2nd trumpet position with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic Orchestra and have performed as principal trumpet and soloist with the orchestra. Read More

I believe that no two students are alike; for each of my students, I create an individual, custom-tailored plan and routine to help solve the most challenging issues in their playing. I advise my students to keep a practice log and write down everything they accomplish and challenges they notice in a practice session. What went well? What didn't go so well? I really try to make each student recognize and embrace his/her uniqueness, as this goes a long way towards developing confidence in playing. I believe that music should be a way to express and communicate our thoughts and emotions, and a try to make this an important part of my lessons, no matter what age or skill level. I am a professional trumpet player in the New York area. I am a versatile and adaptable player equally comfortable playing small group jazz, lead trumpet, salsa, funk, classical and theater. I am originally from Vancouver Island, Canada and have also lived in Toronto. I moved to New York in 2012 to attend the Juilliard School. Begining Students I work on creating a nice tone and understanding of instrument as a whole.  I use standard of excellence training books and move on depending on students willingness and skill. Teach Jazz Improv to all levels.  Concentrate on jazz vocabulary, expression, style, and creating in the moment. Also teach meditation which leads to better practice and healthier living. I create an environment where the student can feel as if they can ask any question and can make mistakes without being looked down on.  I encourage the student to problem solve their own issues through critical thinking. My goal is to teach you so you don't need to be taught anymore. We will work on a given concept continuously until it is understood and able to be produced. I have been teaching trumpet lessons for a decade, to students of all ages, and I also now teach beginning piano and trombone. I have also served as a Teaching Assistant in the Harvard Music Department. While I originally come from classical training and have the ability to deal with classical repertoire, I think there is much to be gained from trying to find and learn about the music that students love and connect to, be it Chopin, the Beatles, movie soundtracks, or Sara Bareilles.
