If the students have music from classes in school, I will also assist them with that. I try to keep the lesson light, and enjoyable! I have spent the past three years living in Miami where I completed my Masters Degree in music education. During this time I was an active trumpet player in south Florida playing with orchestras, brass bands, jazz groups, and quite regularly latin bands due to the popularity of salsa/latin styles in that region. My Bachelors degree was completed in 2006 at the Univeristy of Delware. If I am staring an elementary student from scratch who is not involved in a school band program I like to use Claude Gordon's "Physical Aproach to Elementary Brass Playing." For middle school through college level players I use the same list of materials, but introduce them in stages as the student progresses though their development. Read More
