I began teaching in 2012 as a senior in high school working at a community music school's summer arts camp in New York. I worked there for five summers as an assistant instructor. I taught beginner and intermediate French horn and trumpet lessons while working there. Many of my students, both at the camp and in my private studio have gone on to make District Bands and Honor Ensembles. With guitar and piano there are several routes one could choose for performance, and each one has different teaching fundamentals. Practice is ideal for each student. I encourage my students in their practicing. Progress will be made most quickly by those students who maintain the recommended practicing time (1 hour per day). Parents are also encouraged to be involved in their students practice. For beginning students, I start with Accent on Achievement, book one. Once the student has gotten a grasp of the fundamentals, I then introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for the student. I will always reference the method book if students are having trouble with a certain technique. For beginning jazz students, I start with the Greg Fishman Jazz books. Once students have mastered this book, I then switch to the omnibook and real book and allow students to learn and try to improvise a solo. Read More

I have been teaching since I was 16. I frequently ran sectionals in my high school as well as at multiple youth orchestras. I taught privately on and off throughout high school and college. I encourage regular practice and help build problem-solving skills because in the end, you are your own best teacher.
