For teaching trumpet fundamentals, there are a handful of helpful books that I use. One of the main books I would suggest students to use is the Arban book. This book contains exercises for just about everything on the trumpet, ranging from excerpts that are challenging for beginners, and excerpts that are challenging for more experienced players too. Another book I would use is Clarke Technical Studies. This book contains a lot of exercises to help build dexterity in the fingers with playing the trumpet. Read More

There is no such thing as a "best method for everybody" but better methods for people's unique needs. For beginners, texts from Hal Leonard, Jamey Aebersold and Alfred's piano course are great examples to guide students through, but ultimately the specific text doesn't matter as long as I can teach the fundamentals necessary to be performance ready. I love learning about how each student learns, and I've always challenged myself to plan accordingly. My students have been honored not only in their own band programs, but also in Georgia All State Band and DCI.
