I will always reference the method book if students are having trouble with a certain technique. For beginning jazz students, I start with the Greg Fishman Jazz books. I also like to spend some lessons just working on sound and free lancing as well as other lessons dedicated to sight reading, musical phrasing, articulation, styles of music...ect...I also have days where we have music appreciation by taking them on trips.
