I am a life long lover of music and have played violin and piano since the age of 5 and began trombone in 5th grade school band. To me, nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students' passion for music arise during, and after lessons. For this is the way i believe important progression happens, when the student is passionate about the subject matter and eager to explore and most importantly enjoying it in the process. I always try to set an attainable goal for each lesson, its through these accomplishments that encourages a student to keep progressing and learning more about the instrument and music. Read More

It depends on the age of the student, but there are plenty of method books and pieces that can both teach a student music theory and notation, as well as their performance skill. With beginners its perfect to start with the Rubank series from Beginner-Intermediate. Many students are given the "Standard of Excellence" series by their school teacher and that series works as well. I believe these books are a great start, but can get old fast. Read More

I cater lessons to YOUR needs and goals. I am not invested in there being a "right" technique of any kind. Together we will create a custom approach so that you will love the experience of playing the music you love. I will share fun and efficient ways to practice so that you get immediate results. If desired, I also guarantee you will be playing a blues and improvising within a maximum of 6 weeks as long as you practice at least 10 minutes, three times a week. You will have the option of playing along with recordings minus your part so that you can experience the joy of ensemble playing early on in the safety of your own home. I love creating small ensemble groups of students at similar levels and arranging concerts at regular intervals. Read More

For students beginning on any brass instrument, the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements is the go to for most music educators. I also try to find solo repertoire for students based on their age and level of experience. Performing as a soloist is just as important as being in an ensemble. The Rochut Legato Studies for trombone and Blahzevich Clef studies are also great tools for more advanced students. As for piano students, I try to determine what that student's musical interests are and tailor instruction to their particular level. Read More

As an educator, I am flexible, patient, positive and fun-loving, and strive to engage each and every student. I want each student to move at a pace that is comfortable for them, and want to ensure that there are no learning gaps or plateaus in understanding of content before encouraging a student to move on. I love when a student leaves a lesson with a smile on their face and when they are truly having fun with music- I know I did my job well. Read More
