I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music! I graduated from Ole Miss in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with minors in both Music and English and I graduated again in 2012 with a Master of Arts degree in Teaching English as a Second Language with a subfield in Music. I've played trombone since 1998 and have performed professionally since 2002 across the entire spectrum of genres and venues. I have had the opportunity to perform abroad in Thailand and Brazil with such groups/acts as the Bangkok Big Band, Eduardo Proenca, Peter Montalbano Septet, Diamante, and the FarUp Band.
From 2004 - 2014 I taught all Band Instruments, Piano, Violin, and coached singing lessons at the McCord Gallery and Cultural Center in Palos Park, Illinois. I got start teaching lessons as 6th Grade Saxophonist. I was selected to tutor two students from the 5th Grade Beginning Band. When I began attending summer camp after 7th Grade, I loved learning enough to perform a concert by the end of each week of camp. In High School, my music practice skills carried over to my academic studies and I was able to graduate with Honors, a 4.00, and earn 14 scholarships to attend college to become a music teacher. Since then, I have had the privilege of teaching1000's of students, and mentoring several college students. One of my favorite examples is a student I started teaching in 4th Grade who later added lessons for 3 other instruments and accomplished his dream of making it into the Chicago Symphony Youth Orchestra. Last year, one of my 2nd Grade Chicago Public School Band students performed the National Anthem for memory on the Alto Saxophone in front of 1000's of people at a race. One of my 1st Grade Violin Students impressed the president of Columbia College of Music so much that my students were offered life-time scholarships to attend Blues Kid's Camp, held annually at Columbia College in Chicago. Taking an active role in supporting people of all ages accomplish their goals and enjoy life is why I teach music.
I am a passionate and motivated teacher & performer primarliy grown out of the marching arts. Performing and teaching at a world class level for decades, I have been well groomed in any musical style that any of us will most likely ever come across. I bring a healthy blend of rock-solid fundamentals, as well as what we are all here to actually do which is MAKE MUSIC!! I am a stickler about details, and will be patiently persistent with all my students to make changes that affect REAL improvement. Please note I also teach beginner guitar lessons!!
Many students beginning private lessons have already started playing the instrument, but still need to establish a firm foundation. When starting to take trumpet or brass instrument lessons each student will be starting at different levels along with progressing at a different pace. Lesson plans are customized to each student's skills and musical interests. My favorite part of playing music is playing with other people, because of this my lessons use a stong emphasis on duets.
When taking on beginner students, I typically use a blend of method books and novice musical pieces to begin to build musicianship. With intermediate musicians, I tend to seek out anything of interet to the student while incorporating harder repertoire to strengthen musicianship and to continue to peek interest in music. With adult musicians, I let them guide me to their area of interest, and I capitalize on that to guide them to better musicianship, no matter what their skill level may be.

The BBB has affirmed Musika as a reliable, trustworthy, safe business to work with, and we have the customer feedback to support this. We are continually working to make sure that Musika is a business you can trust.
Background checks available on instructors. Instructor can opt to have a background check on file. You can request to only be connected with teachers that have a check. The choice is yours.
In-home trombone lessons are a convenient option for improving your musical skills. In-home lessons are virtually the same in every aspect as lessons taught in a studio. You can let Musika know what days and times work best and a teacher from our network will arrange to teach lessons in your home for the same price as in-studio lessons.
Beginning-level trombones, known also as student models, are relatively cheap and available through many music shops or instrument catalogs. Some music shops can also provide trombone rentals. Something to look for with a used trombone is to be sure that the instrument can be taken apart and put together easily and is relatively free of dents. Your teacher can also help with the selection of an instrument and all the accessories required to keep it in great condition.
We love adult students! We have adults who are complete beginners, some who haven't played their instrument in 10 years, and some who are more advanced students looking to take their skills to the next level. The teachers in our network have proven methods to get you the results you desire.
With Musika, instructors give customized lessons to each student. They work with the students to determine their strengths and weaknesses, and then develop the best lesson plan for their individual success. Lessons will usually incorporate practicing the instrument's fundamentals, learning the proper technique for performing, and music theory to understand the piece, ultimately creating a well-rounded and skilled musician.
Our recommended starting age for trombone is 8 or 9. The instrument requires a good amount of lung capacity as well as physical strength in the muscles around the mouth and the ability to maneuver the instrument's sliding valve. While a student younger than 8 might be physically able to play the instrument, this is rare.

My son and I both take lessons with Micheal. My son started on the ukulele and recently started the guitar. He is excellent with children. Very patient and very intuitive to the child's ability. He is also an excellent teacher for adults. I had not touched my guitar in several years and in a couple months not only to I remember everything I forgot but I'm learning many new techniques and am a much better player than I've ever been.

Darrell is A-Maz-Ing! He demands results from his students and therefore results come quickly. The time he spends teaching is intense and packed with great instruction. He is a tough teacher but offers lots of valuable instruction that is applicable for music as well as life in general. I highly recommend Darrell if you are ready for results!

Stephanie is an excellent voice teacher! Our 10-year-old daughter enjoys her lessons with Stephanie each week. She has an amazing way of connecting with our daughter through music. Stephanie knows how to offer constructive feedback in a positive way that keeps our daughter interested and wanting to learn more. I would recommend Stephanie without hesitation.

My daughter began learning sax in her school band, but she didn't begin PLAYING sax until she started lessons with Debra. From scales and exercises to actual pieces, Debra coached my daughter with real insight, sensitivity, and patience. Her knowledge of the instrument and feeling for music - along with her easy-going,"kid friendly" personality - make Debra the ideal teacher and musical mentor.

Andrew is very encouraging and uplifting, but also isn't afraid to tell you your weaknesses. Andrew also is super awesome with scheduling. Fits around your schedule all the time. He really knows what he is doing and can help you reach your goal in the time you would like to. Couldn't have gotten a better teacher, who continually helps me grow and pushes me.

Melissa is very encouraging, positive, supportive and patient. She knows how to explain the technical details of flute and music notation to kids in a way that makes sense to them. She has been reliable so far turning up on time and calling if there is a need to reschedule. I would definitely recommend her to others.

Angela has been a perfect match-up for me. She is warm and welcoming, and also serious about teaching - she keeps our time focused and on track. What I truly appreciate, as a new singer anxiously preparing for an event, is the confidence she gives me. Angela is very encouraging. I enjoy coming to class.

Brett is an accomplished musician, who shared his knowledge at a level that my five year old understands. He is polite and relaxed in his mannerisms but take a serious approach to focusing on the lesson. He is very patient and engaging with the attention span you'd expect from a kindergartener. His motto ever is "sometime you learn faster by going slow"

Kevin is very friendly and professional trombone teacher. During the first session he assessed my 12 year old son's strengths and identified areas for development. He has helped him refine his technique which helps our son in band class but also has him working on duets that help him grow in new ways. He comes to our home and is always very punctual. I would highly recommend Kevin!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
