I have been teaching trumpet, improvisation and theory for ten years and have worked with students from beginner to professional level. I have taught private students, clinics, summer workshops and full band classes. I have worked with the Juilliard Outreach Program, Yamaha Canada, the Sterling Hall School and Roy Thompson Hall's 'Save the Music' program. I look to be sure that each student enjoys the material as well as music as a whole. Therefore, each student should be able to progress at their own pace. As a student progresses, I do have an admittedly bad habit of speeding up material a bit too much, so I encourage all students to let me know when something is too much for them. As i look to select material, I like to do a 5 minute test run of the piece to ensure that students enjoy the material before assigning it. Read More

I've found that students always are capable of more than they believe. Encouraging regular practice and finding music that makes the students want to practice is most important. I have been studying these four methods quite some time now and understand not only the instruction on the page but the purpose of the excercise itself.
