I have always loved sharing knowledge with others. I especially love sharing my musical knowledge with others. I want people to have fun making music and I believe the way to do that is to find creative ways to make practice interesting. But making music is also about creating relationships so I encourage my students to take advantage of the ways that performing music opens new doors and creates avenues for new friendships. Read More

I assess the student's long-term goals in learning the trombone and then set a reasonable series of smaller goals based on their progress. A student can move as quickly as they like as long as they put in the work to advance. Read More

I began taking private lessons shortly after I joined the band program in middle school. I continued to take lessons all throughout high school and college. Shortly after graduating high school I was offered the position of drum instructor. During college I taught for several years as the drum instructor at Winter Haven High School. I also taught private lessons to a wide range of students during this time. Shortly after college I became the band director at McKeel Academy of Technology in Lakeland. Read More

Building personal confidence is one of the best ways to overcome performance anxiety. The method books I use are written by outstanding brass musicians such as Max Schlossberg, J. Read More

Much of this depends on where the student is in their learning progression--if they are just starting out, then I will focus on the fundamentals of good trombone playing, and work with the basic books like Arban's methods for Trombone. I also have used the Hal Leonard series. But as soon as possible, I will move the student into both listening and playing assignments, starting with artists whose transcriptions are more accessible for both range and technique: Curtis Fuller (including transcriptions I created in college, which are really amazing for students), Hal Leonard's JJ Johnson collection, my own recordings and transcriptions, and Etudes for Jazz from Mike Carubia Jack Gale. My teaching experience began during my first year of college in 2014. While visiting home during the Holidays, I began giving private lessons. Along with my education classes, I completed several practicums as a well as a 12 week student teaching program. Ultimately, my goal is to instill music as an intricate part of all of my students' lives. It is important for students to form an appreciation for music while also creating their own identity in the art. Read More
