I grew up in San Diego, California and began studying music at the age of six. I didn't find my way to the trombone until I was 11, but it's been my buddy ever since. Although my degrees are in composition, I still love to play and teach. I've played all kinds of music with all kinds of people in all kinds of places, and I'm happy to share my experience with students, whether a raw beginner or a conservatory graduate. I've also had my own music played in a myriad of venues, and if writing your own music is something you've ever thought to try, show me!
I began teaching in high school. I am currently in college studying music education. I can efficiently teach from the ranges of beginners to intermediate/advanced (depending on the instrument). My specially instrument is euphonium.
I'm a 27 year old passionate and motivated instructor who likes to further his education some day. I graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance. I love teaching kids

Children can start trombone lessons in the 3rd grade, or around age 8. They must have enough lung capacity to produce a good tone and have a long enough arms to reach the furthest slide positions. Trombone lessons offer students a real advantage in school music programs and should be thought of as a requirement unless they get enough individual attention from their band director, who may not be as familiar with trombones as private instructors.
We love adult students! We have adults who are complete beginners, some who haven't played their instrument in 10 years, and some who are more advanced students looking to take their skills to the next level. The teachers in our network have proven methods to get you the results you desire.
It is very important for trombone students to have a basic grasp of music theory from the very beginning of learning the instrument. Students will learn the different slide positions in order to play different notes. The teacher will help develop a correct embouchure, posture, and breathing technique, and also teach the student how to assemble, clean, and care for their trombone.
In-home trombone lessons are a convenient option for improving your musical skills. In-home lessons are virtually the same in every aspect as lessons taught in a studio. You can let Musika know what days and times work best and a teacher from our network will arrange to teach lessons in your home for the same price as in-studio lessons.
Before getting an instrument, consider the level of the student and the amount you are willing to spend. In the short term it will be cheaper to rent a trombone, but serious students should consider purchasing their own instrument. Most new students should choose a small bore, straight trombone that is designed for beginners. More advanced students might consider F-rotor trombones that allow for greater range, but the advantages afforded and the needs of the student should be discussed with your teacher before purchasing.

I have known Erin since I attended graduate school at the Hartt School in Connecticut. Last year she came to the college I teach at to give a master class and talk about her experiences as a musician abroad. She has proven that she is a capable and wonderful musician and educator. I highly recommend studying with her if you're lucky enough to have the opportunity!

Steve gets you started right away with songs but also goes into music theory and reading music which adds to understanding and appreciation of the music. He is very approachable and you can tell that he absolutely loves music and teaching. It is hard not to be excited about the process of learning with Steve. If you are considering lessons I highly recommend Steve for any level of student.

She is amazing! My daughter, Isabella (7 yrs) is totally engaged in the lesson. Lilly's definitely has a gift with teaching young children!!! A great talent of hers is making the content interesting, current to today's music and most of all fun! She has a knack for taking the material and translating it in a way that is relatable to Isabella. My daughter really enjoys her lesson's and has moved along rather quickly with the material. Thanks Lilly!

My daughter is extremely happy and comfortable with Rachel, and looks forward to her piano lessons every week. She is a very kind and patient teacher, always using positive reenforcement with my daughter, which makes all the difference in the world to children. We definitely are looking forward to continued piano lessons with her. So glad we found her.

Rahsaan is an extremely talented player who relates really well with my teenagers. He has them both interested in learning. Given Rahsaan's expertise, it's clear that even though they are beginners now, they can learn from him for a long time to come. He's a real nice laid-back guy and both the boys really enjoy their time with him. I've been very impressed and pleased with the experience.

Henry is teaching my daughter how to play piano. Henry is an excellent teacher, we really like and appreciate him. His teaching style works very well for my daughter, she is comfortable which makes learning enjoyable. Henry is very patient and I can see that he is passionate about teaching music. Great teacher for sure.

Omar is a great teacher as he provides expert instruction AND the right amount of encouragement. He is a professional musician on several instruments, yet he is patient with beginners! He also has gone out of his way to purchase an appropriate book for me, strings to re-string the cello, and extra attention to tuning. I appreciate how he explains and demonstrates exactly what a beginning cello student needs to know.

My 4 year old son is quite energetic. Another piano teacher tried to teach him before Peter and could not get my son to listen to him at all. That teacher told me that my son had no interest and that we needed to wait before having my son take lessons. Peter started teaching my son a few weeks later. He quickly developed a great rapport with my son. I was astounded when my son sat down and listened to Peter during the first lesson. Peter has remarkable patience and is a natural working with children. He knows when to follow the child's lead. My son is very interested in how the piano works, so Peter takes the time to teach him about this. He is able to use my son's interests (superheroes, Lego, Star Wars, etc.) to refocus him back to playing the piano. Between lessons, he brainstorms on how he can teach my son better. For example, my son was playing the notes, but not understanding rhythm, so Peter looked into it and came back the next week with a new plan which helped. My son looks forward to his lesson every week. When he hears the doorbell ring on lesson day, he exclaims, "Yay! Peter's here!"

He is incredibly patient and really customizes his teaching style to the child. Both of my children are learning piano with him; they have learned so much and really enjoy the lessons. In fact, my daughter asked to learn another instrument (guitar) with him and is making great progress with that, too.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
