These ensembles / genres include: Wedding Bands, Jazz, Big Band, Classical, Funk, Hip-Hop, Afrobeat, Salsa, Rap, House, Fusion and more. My main objective as an educator is to share my enthusiasm for music and develop a lifelong love for music in my students. I do not have one specific style of teaching because I believe it to be my job to cater my teaching style to the learning style of my students. Every student has different objectives and interests. I do my best to help students learn what they are interested in while insuring they develop excellent fundamentals on their instrument and a strong knowledge of music theory. Read More

Instruments: Piano Trombone Euphonium Music

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with a compilation of books that I have founded very helpful through my research in methods or etudes. There is a goal per lesson which should be aproached easily to practice. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

Instruments: Trombone Euphonium

Depending on the level of the student, there is a sequence over time of method and etude books that I use in my lessons. I also incorporate solo repertoire and encourage my students to take part in activities such as the IMEA Solo and Ensemble Competitions. Regardless of the students ability, teaching fundamentals of the instrument are my priority. I encourage students to practice daily, so that our lessons together can be as fun and productive as possible. Read More

Instruments: Trombone Euphonium Tuba

The most important thing that I can teach a student is good habits. One of my first teachers always said "I'm not here to teach you to play the trombone, I'm here to teach you how to practice the trombone." That has esentially been my teaching philosophy since then. The half hour to an hour that I would be spending with a student each week is not enough time to turn them into a great trombone player, so the most important thing to do in lessons is to teach them how to practice the instrument when I am not in the room with them. Depending on the age level, we will then move on to etudes (short study pieces) and short exercises meant to develop technique. I stress the study of etudes not only to develop technique but more importantly to develop the student's own unique musical inner voice. I suggest the student keep a practice journal to maintain an efficient, focused and effective practice. My lessons end with a review and time to answer any questions the student may have. Read More

For beginning students I believe it's important for them to begin playing the first day. I get the students to make their first sound and teach the technique and theory as they learn their instrument. For beginning voice students I use the same method, but I like to use a song that the student knows. For students with experience I like to have them play or sing something they know and I evaluate that and I will work with them on that song and build their technique. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
