Also, my students must be able to read music. Reading music is very important to me, having the students be musically literate with a decent tone will take a student far in their musical career. After an initial assessment of knowledge and skill, I began tailoring lessons for each student individually depending on their skill level. Lip slurs, long tones, embouchure amp; tuning are all key assets for beginners. Now for my advanced players we will definitely start in the music bible (The Arban Book) and work from start to finish. It all started when I took my first drum lesson in the 4th grade. From then on, I wanted to play whenever I could. I played in all my school bands from middle school to high school. Graduated Southern University, home of the world famous "Human Jukebox" which I was a member of for 3 years, as well as playing for my church since I was 13.
