For young beginners on classical piano, I like "Music Tree," and the Faber "Piano Adventures" series, and for older kids I use the Bastien literature series. I taught my first lesson at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and I immediately I was drawn into teaching by the level of enthusiasm, open-mindedness, and desire to improve shown by the student. This student made rapid progress each week, and eventually was offered to go on an international tour with Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp the following year. I use a basic book such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or whatever material the student's band director is using. Flexibility is the key.
