For begining student I typically start with a book called Essential Elements. I supplement some of the things in the book with other literature and hand written exercise to help enhance learning experience. My teaching experience began in my junior year of high school (2009) when I was asked by younger students if I could teach them outside of school. I took a year off from teaching in order to complete my college degree at Towson University, and now that I have graduated I am looking to share my knowledge, experience, work ethic, and passion for music, with students that have a burning desire to pursue music either as a living, or a hobby. In the first lesson, I assess the student's current ability and also discuss the student's personal goals and interests in music. Based on this information, I create a daily fundamentals routine for the student to use to improve the basic building blocks of playing a musical instrument. I also allow students to bring in music that interests them from solo material and pieces of music from band class. Approximately half of the weekly lesson is spent on fundamental materials that I assign weekly, and the other half is spent on the student's chosen material. Read More
