Getting my students to understand how consistency is much more important than anything else when it comes to practice is the first thing I strive for. I've found that making music learning a fun experience is what will help the student learn. No matter the age, training classically and applying music that the student enjoys is very important to keep the interest level high while not compromising the integrity of music as an art. Read More

My method when teaching students that are starters (kids) i used books like teaching little fingers to play piano and john Thompson which introduce learning of notes, their instrument, posture, and rhythm. Most of these books are in sets and will take the student to an advanced bigger player! From here I incorporate a method of learning at least 3-4 pieces ( A piece that has mostly a melodic line, a piece that concerns more of rhythmic exercises and then to a last piece which is a study) i will also top it up with scales and arpeggios and also a sense of knowing your instrument overall, listening , Aural and also incorporate sight reading . I have been teaching private flute lessons since High School and fell in love with teaching in general right away. As my skills have increased, I've learned to work with private students in other instruments as well. Over the past 6 years, I have actively been working to expand my studio and teaching experience in any way possible. Since starting college, I have gained teaching experience through my private students as well as experience in the classroom. Read More

I have made sure to transfer all of these skills to my private teaching. I am very direct with my students and act as facilitator in lesson discussions, and to try not making decisions for them. I heavily employ the "trial by fire" and "sink or swim" methods, as I've found those the most effective in my lifetime of learning new things. However, I am flexible in going back and reteaching and remodeling, as long as we still keep our "eyes on the prize", whether that be personal rewards, scholastic musical awards, musical career advancement, music therapy approach/feelings, etc. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to the beginning of high school. Though it wasn't music education, I am very much use to private teaching. I started my education career at "Kumon of Bowie Math and Reading Center," a tutoring center created to emphasis one-on-one assistance for students in need. After working there for five years, I pursued my undergraduate education until Spring 2017. During college, I also worked as an ear training mentor. Read More
