Currently licensed as a substitute teacher and a paraprofessional (teacher's aide), I have much experience in a classroom setting and assisting elementary through high school students. I have held both licenses for over 5 years. I also have previous experience as the coordinator for an after school program through Chicago Public Schools, which I was employed by, and running the program as well. A lot of the program consisted of individually assisting/tutoring students from elementary through high school. Read More

I have been teaching privately for about four years. Most recently, I was awarded the Graduate Teaching Position at Bemont University for my final semester. I was in charge of weekly instruction for seven students, conducting both classical and commercial seminars, and leading Jazz Band and Small Group. I make it a point to have a healthy balance between the student's interests as a player as well as what I feel are essential qualities inherent in the instrument's performance practice. Read More

While I find most beginning band method books to be effective, I often integrate exercises from saxophone-specific texts, such as: Larry Teal's Saxophonists Workbooks, Rubank Method books of all levels, and for more advanced students Rascher's Top Tones and Londeix's Le Detache. I possess a wide knowledge of repertoire across genres, and cater to students' individual interests. While I foster technical development, I place my main emphasis on the students' enjoyment of the music they are performing, and believe that at every age and skill level one can perform confidently given the appropriate repertoire. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

For my beginning students who are children on piano, I typically start with Alfred's Basic piano books. There are so many levels and it helps them understand the basics. With the piano books there are also theory workbooks that give them a chance to think about what they are actually doing when it comes to making music. With the older students on piano, I stick with Alfred's Piano books for adults. Read More

I love watching my students develop a love of playing music. It's so much fun to learn to play and perform. I encourage hard work and preparation for recitals and concerts. I teach students how to teach themselves by use of recording themselves and to learn how to ask themselves questions and observations to make maximum progress. I personalize my lessons to the goals of the students. If a student wants to learn the "Star Wars Theme", then we work on that as well as working through their lesson books. Read More
