I started teaching in 2009 in Mississippi. I taught 6th grade band (beginner), 7th grade band, and high school. I taught in Mississippi for 5 years and just recently moved to Tennessee. While teaching, I've given private lessons to some of my students after school and to some students who did not attend my school. I always encourage doing a recital, entering competitions, and continuing on to college playing their instrument. I love motivating students and challenging them to be the best and nothing less. Currently licensed as a substitute teacher and a paraprofessional (teacher's aide), I have much experience in a classroom setting and assisting elementary through high school students. I have held both licenses for over 5 years. I also have previous experience as the coordinator for an after school program through Chicago Public Schools, which I was employed by, and running the program as well. A lot of the program consisted of individually assisting/tutoring students from elementary through high school. Read More

I'm a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher who loves working with young musicians and helping them to express themselves through songs. I graduated with honors from Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in Songwriting. I have performed in festivals and clubs all over the country, written music for films, and lead a working band. A passion in my life is inspiring children and teenagers discover their own passion for music, and give them the tools to thrive. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I love watching my students develop a love of playing music. It's so much fun to learn to play and perform. I encourage hard work and preparation for recitals and concerts. I teach students how to teach themselves by use of recording themselves and to learn how to ask themselves questions and observations to make maximum progress. I personalize my lessons to the goals of the students. If a student wants to learn the "Star Wars Theme", then we work on that as well as working through their lesson books. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
First, I believe it is important all students have a firm grasp on the fundamentals of the instrument, which may include some scale exercises, for example. Once we achieve a basic level, we can move along to some solo repertoire, etudes, and tunes that target a specific area to keep lessons fun and engaging, all while reaffirming subjects learned previously. Regarding jazz and improvisation, lessons will cover a broad spectrum, ranging from modal improvisation, to bebop and postmodern styles, all while focusing on harmonic functionality and individual expression.
