Ive been teaching saxophone and piano lessons professionally for the last 7 years, and have had students go on to play for the Utah All-State Jazz Band and have earned several scholarships. I encourage regular practicing and give weekly assignments that include rudiments, transcription projects, and listening assignments. I focus on the jazz language and how its been applied to modern genres like hip hop, funk, and RnB. For high school students the I use Rubank books and supplement that with Rose etudes as they are often use as audition material in KY. I started teaching in 2009 in Mississippi. I taught 6th grade band (beginner), 7th grade band, and high school. I taught in Mississippi for 5 years and just recently moved to Tennessee. While teaching, I've given private lessons to some of my students after school and to some students who did not attend my school.
