Instruments: Saxophone
For beginning students, I usually begin by playing with them so they feel comfortable first. This is the most important aspect of the lesson since one-on-one time can be intimidating unless each person is familiar with one another and each other's playing style. I often try and get a feel for what type of music they're into. This helps guide the lesson material in a way that moves smoothly and helps them excel while having fun. Read More

Eric Letta is saxophonist, clarinetist, composer, recording artist, and teacher. His roots are deeply grounded in the traditions of jazz, but his exciting and creative style incorporates all genres, such as r&b, funk, and modern bop. A native of Akron, Ohio, he was a member of the Ohio All-State Jazz Ensemble before earning a degree from Kent State University. The best way of teaching is the one that makes your student develop a honest passion for music. While there's a core of exercises and practice routines that I teach to everyone, I have great respect for the peculiar interests of the single students and I introduce studies and repertoire that are close to their musical tastes and sensibility so that they'll feel accomplished and rewarded by realizing how their technical studies is helping them to play the music they love. I was born into a musically inclined family, and I decided to be the first to take it to a professional level. I started on piano with songs from games and films I enjoyed, but I always tried to come up with something of my own. During high school, I joined the marching band on alto saxophone and taught myself to play and read music. I was section leader for 2 years. Read More

My main goal is to show students how amazing playing music can be. Nothing is more fufilling than watching a student become inspired to grow as they grasp new ideas and develop a new skill. It is important to instill efficient and productive practice values in a way that that is exciting and fun, and that will foster the desire to learn and progress. Because each person processes information and ideas differently, it is my job to find the best way to "click" with each student in order to maximize their learning and understanding. Read More

I have been blessed with patient and understanding mentors throughout my musical career and so I too want to give that to my students! Every child and every adult should be treated as if they have the potential to be the next great Duke Ellington or Stravinsky; every individual has a mass of potential that is just waiting to be drawn out and that is what I look for. I don't try to make the student to conform to my standards. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I also believe in the importance of listening to as many professional recordings as possible of the instrument the student is taking lessons on. Read More
