I am a University of North Texas graduate. I studied with Jim Riggs and Dr. Eric Nestler and played in the top lab bands and classical ensembles while attending school. I later moved to NYC where I started my professional playing career. I lived there for 14 years playing with several music ensembles and studied with Bill Blount on clarinet and Lorrie Glaze on piano. I played on Broadway musicals like Avenue Q and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Read More

My process is based on (but does not adhere strictly to) the Classical approach to Western tonal harmony and asks that the students develop certain fundamentals of technique and theory. In my experience, this structure creates the strongest foundation for pupils to build the rest of their musical lives on, whether professionally or solely for personal enjoyment. All of my students are on the fast track to studying music theory. Read More

I usually balances the time by working first on fundamental/technical aspects of the instrument: intonation, articulation, rhythm, and tone; followed by study of the particular student's chosen repertoire, whether it be jazz standards, rock/pop/blues tunes, classical literature or etudes. I believe in teaching students to organize their practice time wisely, isolating specific issues on the instrument. Cultivating personal musical goals with each student is also very important, in order to maximize the student's enjoyment of the time they spend playing. Read More

I've been a serious musician since taking up (baritone) saxophone at age 13, over 40 years ago. I first took up clarinet at 10, and later added flute, but saxophone has been my main focus over the years. I play around the Austin area in a variety of settings from big bands to musicals to rock/blues groups to studio recording to classical ensembles; pretty much whatever is asked for. Some of my previous teachers include Jim Riggs at the University of North Texas, Harvey Pittel at the University of Texas, Jeff Elwood at California State University Fullerton, and Joe Eckert at TCU. I have also been in bands, singing groups, etc. since I was a small boy in church and outside of it. Always able to practice my craft on various instruments and stretch out my voice while making a JOYFUL NOISE. My dad is also a Pastor. We may differ in mechanization now that I am a man, but I think music is a gift and music is my LIFE. I now record music, create, compose, and just started a band of my own. Read More

Ive been teaching private saxophone lessons for 3 years. Ive developed a simple method to customize each students practice routine. Students are all different and have different strengths and weaknesses. Its very important for musicians to be honest with themselves about their struggles in music. I help direct their focus and plan a written practice log in their own notebook. Writing down goals and achievements weekly helps motivate students and keeps them practicing. Read More
