I love to see my students overcome challenges in music. My music teacher used to say, "nothing is hard, or difficult, just challenging." If students learn how to practice effectively on their own, learning new music becomes easier over time. I teach my students how to approach a certain rhythm, phrase, or fingering and the techniques to do so correctly such as by slowing down and practicing with a metronome, our muscle memory will be able to play it up to speed once it's learned. I have been working with children since I began working with Bar-T Summer Camps in 2007 at age 13. In my second year at Berklee College of Music, I decided to pursue music education. I have always been fascinated in music instruction. I have taught ages 5-18 in many different music fields like composition, arranging, performance, composition and theory. My main instrument is the Alto Saxophone and I have enjoyed playing the instrument on many stages and other performance areas. Read More

I like to see what the student is currently working on, interested in, or what the school district encourages. I am open to student / parent wishes; I understand that while some student goals are to find a career with music, there are many who are looking to grow within a hobby! There are several method books I prefer for different reasons, so I will do my best after some discussion to find an appropriate fit for the student. If there is an adult learner looking to start, I'd do the same. Read More

For beginning students, I ask if they are using a specific book in their school program, and will work with that. Otherwise, I will start with the beginning Rubank method book, and move through books containing etudes and exercises of increasing difficulty. These may include folk/popular tunes and lighter classical repertoire. I believe that ensuring that the student enjoys playing is the single most important aspect to learning an instrument. Read More

I knew I was going to become a music teacher at the age of ten, so I absolutely understand how much of an impact teachers have on students from a young age. I have been teaching larger ensembles for most of my college years, but have had private students around my school schedule for many years. Finding what motivates the student is key. If the student isn't motivated or doesn't care, then I need to change something! Read More

First of all I feel the student should be comfortable and relaxed with playing music you shouldn't be tense (hence the pocket). Secondly, they should know every aspect of their instrument. And thirdly, they should know how to hold and play their instrument (with fingers or mouth). also through some music theory in. But, foremost I want the student to enjoy playing so, they can pick what ever they want to learn. Read More

Teaching music to students has always been a huge passion of mine and developing a love of music is always my top priority. I had a lot of bad habits that developed over years so it will always be my goal to make sure this isn't the case with my students. Playing music should be fun, never too hard or painful. I will put a big emphasis on posture and building proper habits from the beginning. Read More
