Sharing music with my students is my greatest passion. I have been playing music since I was nine years old. Music has provided me with many valuable lessons and opportunities of which I instill on my students. I am a Trombonist, Guitarist, Composer and Arranger with a BFA in Jazz Performance from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City. I've been teaching all kids and adults for over 15 years. I 'm awesome with kids (so the parents have told me!)... I don't adhere to any rigid format. I work with what level and progression suits you, and I'm super-easy to get along with. Also, I believe in positive reinforcement. There are some old school teachers who sometimes degrade a pupil when they're not doing an exercise correctly. For beginning adults I like to pick some simple songs that resonate and work towards learning them. I believe strongly in the diversity of the student. I realize that not everyone likes books. For young students, I would usually start them off using Bastien Piano Basics. It's very digestible, and gives a good starting-off point for both technical playing, and larger musical concepts as a whole. With a student who is older or perhaps more advanced, who has a solid grasp on technical proficiency and music theory, I would typically recommend studying specific pieces, starting with Classical, and eventually moving into Jazz. I feel that following a chronological study of music is one of the best ways to become a well-rounded, versatile player who feels comfortable approaching any material. Read More

General Method In General, I believe the three foundations of a student's success are 1. Proper Technique (scales, rudiments, etc) 2. Repertoire (memorized pieces) 3. Creativity (improvising, learning by ear) Parents: You MUST encouraging you child to practice or "play". When they practice, be there, let them know you love hearing them play. For my piano students, I use different method and technique books in order to help my students learn the basics.  This includes how to properly read their sheet music so that they can pratice their skills by themselves.  I also use repetition and demonstrate different pratice skills so that my students can further advance their piano skills.
