The following are books that I start my lessons with. In addition, I supplement with materials that my students are interested in learning. If there is a particular song or style that they would like to learn(and is reasonably within their ability level or I am able to modify), I work to teach it to them. Drums: ***The book chosen depends on a student's level and personal goals, but these are great books to start with: Drumset For Preschoolers by Andy Ziker(for students ages 2-6, or students that would benefit from a color-coded system initially) The Drumset Musician By Rod Morgenstein and Rick Mattingly(great for beginning drum beats!) Alfred's Drum Method(for learning rhythms and rudiments) A Fresh Approach to the Drumset by Mark Wessels with Stanton Moore(teaches an intro to a variety of styles, including rock, samba, jazz, etc.) Piano: Alfred's All-in-One Course This book has simple, child-centered lessons that are reasonably paced, teaches beginning music theory, and allows students the opportunity to write. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed. It is my goal as an instructor to guide the student toward their vision of success, whether it be personal, professional, or some mixture of both. Every student should be challenged, but nobody should ever feel as if music is some form of art that is lost on them. I seek to set standards and expectations high to learn alongside the student and to grow, both as people and as musicians, until the point at which they have exhausted my knowledge so that they may one day reminisce with pride and accomplishment on the path that I have set them upon. For piano: I usually start with Piano Safari method books, which I supplement with pieces that pique the student's interest. I love this series for young students because it combines rote with note-learning. In this method, the student immediately is playing all over the keyboard and has fun learning. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love for music. In 2017 I graduated with my BA in Music with an emphasis on Tuba from Texas State University.
