Instruments: Piano Music Keyboard
I began teaching private lessons five years ago and I am incredibly passionate about empowering my students to find their callings in the music industry. I find that combining classical and commercial training is extremely beneficial to my students. I train them in all styles, integrating and introducing my students to songwriting, improvisation, recording techniques, composition, and music technology. As a music producer, session musician, arranger, composer, songwriter, and artist in Nashville, Tennessee, I train students to find their sound and become leaders and innovators in the music industry. Instruments: Piano Voice
I start lessons with a quick interview so I can get an idea of what you want with your singing, not only technically I.e. range, projection, pitch etc, but also personal goals, being better at karaoke or sounding your best in a recording studio and everything in between. We then go over basic vocal exercises, the principles of singing, any tension I see encumbering your vocal production. The last half of the lesson we go through songs, either that you pick or are assigned. Read More

I emphasize positive, fun, joyful learning and I use multimedia to make the lesson more colorful and modern. I have one foot in the traditional "Old School" and one in cutting edge learning techniques. I completely tailor each person's lesson plans to emphasize the strengths of the student. Some people learn through hearing, while others need to learn through touch and coordination. Those with shorter attention spans enjoy faster rotation through activities, which is effective for children as young as three years of age. Read More

For beginner students, we start off using the beginning books from "Piano Adventures" by Faber Faber, and published by Hal Leonard. They learn to read music, improvise, music theory, and play all style of music. A typical lesson for an elementary school student would be 10 min of playing assigned pieces that they've practiced for the week, 10 min of new songs for the next week, 5 min of music theory, and 5 min of some sort of musical game. I strongly believe that a student make a commitment to practice - just like in marching band, studying for a class, studying for a play, etc. Without regularly practicing at least 5 days each week, the student will not make the improvements that they want. Finally, I like using intrinsic and extrinsic rewards to say well done. So candy, certificates, awards, and even that annual recital can all be expected. I like to bring other instruments in so we can practice playing as a small ensemble. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Violin Fiddle
For beginners, I typically start students off with the suzuki books to build technique, but I teach them from the classical perspective rather than the suzuki method. With intermediate and advanced students, i will introduce solo repertoire appropriate for recital performance and/or a commercial piece (fiddle tunes, pop songs, etc) that the student is interested in learning. Fiddle is my specialty, but I also teach classical violin and even my fiddle students will learn classical technique. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin Cello Viola Electric Violin
For my beginning students, I typically start with either Essential Elements 2000 for strings or Sound Innovations. Both books give younger students a grasp on the fundamentals of technique. As they grow I then introduce solo repertoire by using the Suzuki Books but also like to add a fiddle book. Sometimes students gradually go either to fiddle or to classical. I try and encourage what they are more comfortable with. For adults, I try to find out what genre of music they enjoy and try to gauge their ability level with a couple playing evaluations. Read More
