Throughout my music career, I had amazing teachers that helped me grow as a musician.  I have taken the best of these experiences to help me become a better teacher.  I strive to create a passion for music through learning, positive reinforcement and by creating an environment that is nurturing.  While I believe in structure, discipline and hard work, I also want my learning environment to be fun.  Building a strong foundation in music theory is important, but finding and unleashing the students passion for music is just as important.  I developed my passion for music because I fell in love with learning about different music genres.  I also want to learn and understand the music interests of my students.  Knowing this helps me develop lesson plans that revolve around that type of music.  I want my students to be engaged, and I want them to be interested in what they play.  This helps in the learning process; it becomes less of a work mindset, and more of a fun mindset.  I always acknowledge milestones and accomplishments of my students.  I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions.  I creat a safe, trusting, and nurturing environment for my students to grow as musicians.

Fun, energetic and productive! My students always say that they leave their lessons with a burst of inspiration. I love to teach my students the basic tools of what it takes to be a professional musician, whether or not they are into music as a hobby or as a serious profession. I currently play drums for the hit Broadway musical (non-union version) of Rock of Ages and when I'm not on the road; I'm teaching. I’m an avid columnist for Modern Drummer Magazine and I sing/play guitar for one of Chicago's best Nirvana tributes called Smells Like Nirvana. I studied at Berklee College of Music and I have a huge passion for teaching. I offer the option for students to get their lessons recorded via audio/video so they have a reference to stay on task for their next lesson.

Basically I start with questions on why the indivual wants to learn how to play that particular instrument. Then I follow with how much do they know about the instrument of their choice. So following a brief historical lesson we get into how to start playing that instrument. Also why I love to play that instrument and when I'm playing it the passion of it.

It feels good and rewarding upon seeing my students improvement and more love for music. I aways see to it that it is fun and effective. Finger training is one of the most important too therefore we won't miss that in every lesson.

I have had the pleasure of teaching students for over 10 years. My students have been of all ages and have consisted of all types of experience levels. These students gave me the experience and helped me grow into a patient and well rounded instructor. My goal is for the student to progress and enjoy themselves while truly understanding what they are learning. I began teaching in my junior year of high school. A majority of my students were my peers in school and I quickly became known as the guitar instructor. Now besides for guitar I teach music theory and piano up to an intermediate skill levels.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
