My teaching experience began 10 years ago when I had the opportunity to teach group piano classes at a local elementary school. My first piano pedagogy classes were at the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2005-2006, and I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity for practice teaching not only at the Cleveland Institute of Music but also at the MacPhail Center for the Arts in Minneapolis, MN. I taught 20 weekly students during my time at the University of Illinois and upon moving back to Minneapolis, MN, began teaching for Schmitt Music locations as well as agencies that give in-home lessons. I am classically trained but I also compose music extensively on a daily basis . I have had a life long passion for music and started playing when I was eight years old. I am currently the pianist for the ballet program at Macalester College, LIse Houlton's professional class at MDT, the Metropolitan Ballet, and Ballet Minnesota. As a child, I loved to sing. Although I could not understand the words, I relied on the sounds and melodies of songssongs that were Russian, Armenian, and even English. I believe my concentration on the music and not the words lead me into my passion for the piano, which I started playing at the age of eight. Guitar: For children, I prefer the FJH Young Beginner Guitar method, but for adults I would prefer Hal Leonard if the student is looking to learn both chords and melody using folk music. I could also teach guitar based on gospel and Christian praise music if the student prefers. I have taught students with an interest in rock music, but only to give them the basic foundation skills of chords and notes to build on with another teacher who has more of a rock music speciality. I have a student tell me what their goals are and we go from there. Some students may have a greater understanding of how the language on the page works.
