Instruments: Piano Voice Music
I desire for the student to learn as much about themselves as they do their instrument. I believe that piano and voice are conduits for expression of emotion and thought and are extremely beneficial in helping students find confidence and awareness. My main motto is that EVERYONE can make music and so I encourage all types of people to learn at my studio. Music and performance as a profession will only last if the student has passion for it so I try to encourage each student to discover why they want to pursue music throughout lessons. Read More

The first step is to build a foundation, a base that all musical ability will be built on. This core will be built of fundamental elements. (This step is fun because you are able to play your instrument.) Once a foundation is created all newly learned material will add on to that base foundation. This means if you learn new material or go off on your on in any direction you will always have this musical foundation that all of your musical learning will be added to. (This step is really exciting, and leads you to new musical elements and new ideas.) Next you begin to learn musical techniques. Read More

I don't believe in a one size fits all mentality for music education, I've often seen this approach derail students from enjoying the process and eventually terminating their relationship with music overall. Students are a case-by-case basis, and in that regard, each lesson is catered to the students actual goals and interests. I believe in training our ears and our sense of rhythm to a point where the student can figure things out and make artistic decisions on their own and use lessons, less as a tutorial, but as a source of inspiration to pursue the things that brought them here in the first place. My teaching experience goes back to when I was a sophomore in high school and I started to teach piano lessons after school to kids that ranged from the age of 5-13. In these lessons we would cover fundamentals, warm-ups, theory, classic literature, etudes, and any fun songs that they wanted! I always encouraged my students to practice and if they wanted to learn a video game song or pop chart we would focus on that. Read More

Each of my days begins and ends with music, and I'm always excited to share my passion with anyone. While attending University of Illinois, I was a part of the Illini Mentoring Program for 2 years, where I worked alongside at-risk youth in an after-school volunteer organization to foster one-on-one relationships, promote learning, and have fun with the mentees. I truly loves performing music live for others, and while at U of I was part of various groups through the college such as the UI Latin Jazz Band (led by Tito Carrillo) and the Black Chorus (led by Dr. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. Read More

My primary instrument is oboe. I have studied with several successful oboists and earned a master's degree in oboe performance from Bowling Green State University, studying with Dr. Nermis Mieses. While earning my degree I took lessons and participated in masterclasses with some of the most successful oboists in the country. I learned many things from these lessons, but most importantly I learned how to make my own oboe reeds. Read More
