Originally from Kansas City, I studied vocal performance, choral conducting and music education at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. I have directed and music directed productions all over the United States, including the current Off-Broadway production of Honestly Abe. I have performed a wide variety of leading roles in everything from opera and operetta, to musical comedy and straight drama. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Having pursued music from a young age, my experiences as a vocal soloist and choir member have brought me all over the world, performing in such musical landmarks as the Sydney Opera House, Smetana Hall, and Carnegie Hall. I grew up learning both voice and piano, and my musical education has provided me more confidence and opportunities in all aspects of life than I ever could have imagined. I began teaching while pursuing my undergraduate degree in California and have since expanded my studio to include a wide spectrum of ages, styles, and experience levels.In 2012, I received my BA in Music with an emphasis in classical voice from Pepperdine University and have since gone on to complete my MM in Voice Performance from The Boston Conservatory. There’s a million different approaches, and we’ll find the one(s) that work best for you. Everyone (even more traditional classical players) tend to take their own path to guitar mastery. This is in part why new techniques and styles of playing are popping up all the time! When starting out, I like to lay a good foundation; teaching students proper hand positioning and posture first. I like to combine this with some single string exercises and some basic chords and strumming patterns that can be used musically, and applied to learning parts or simplified versions of songs the student is familiar with and enjoys listening to. I graduated from Columbia with a degree in Political Science in 2017 and I'm currently pursuing my Masters of Music degree under the tutelage of Richard Goode. I am an adjunct faculty member at NYU, teaching saxophone, clarinet, and keyboard, and music theory. I began teaching saxophone when I was 15, to beginning players at local middle schools and quickly built a full studio of young saxophonists, clarinetists, and flutists. Since then, I have taught at Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin, led masterclasses in San Jose, Costa Rica, Orange County, CA, Rochester, NY, and the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
