As a strong believer of the KIPP mission and vision, I work hard to instill the truths spoken to me behind the process of getting to and through college, constantly reminded by the words of Marianne Williamson that “our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure.” There are 2 things that I believe in regards to education: 1) All students can/will learn. 2) It is not whether or not you are smart, but rather HOW you are smart, citing Gardner's Theory of Intelligence. For young beginners, I have come to love the Bastien Piano Basics Series. It’s fun, and loaded with colorful pictures, which is especially fitting for the little ones! However, I’ve come to find that it’s not a “one size fits all” when it comes to piano methods; I’ve used Faber’s Piano Adventures with a few of my current students, as well as Alfred’s Piano Basics. I've been playing the piano for 15 years as a church accompanist. I currently perform as a church accompanist at a church in Little Rock for 6 years. During summer 2012, I held a piano teaching internship at Rhythm 88 Music School in Little Rock, Arkansas. I performed at Carnegie Weill Hall with my friend, cellist Kyung-min Kang 2013 summer. The cellist won 3rd place in the American Protege Competition. The winners recital was held during July 2013 at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Read More

I believe in teaching foundational skills or concepts in a way that allows students to use their individual preferred genres of music as the subject of study. I also like to use technology interactively to teach less-engaging concepts. Any form of progress is acknowledged and used as a stepping stone to the next level. Rapid changes in technology have caused a great impact in the effective delivery of teaching and training methods for learners and students of different learning styles. Read More

If you are not interested in that part of music, I will just sneak it in as necessary. Having had so much experience with so many apposing methods, I myself have learned that there are as many different types of learners as there are types of people, so it is best to let the student show you what works for them. I never have to push any students to practice because my method surrounds the students goals and abilities that they actually want to achieve. Read More

For brass instrumental students, I generally use the Rubank Method books, focusing on care of the instrument and basic fundamentals. For piano students I use a variety of different method books and am not tied down to any one series. We will also work on scales and the Hannon series For vocal students, I use a series of vocalises, scales and other exercises to strengthen the voice. We will then work on repetroire focusing on what the student would sing at a recital performance. Read More

I come up with a customized lesson plan for each of my students that will stay on the best possible path to success. Based on skill level, all lessons are geared toward progressing to a goal that the student sets while setting individual milestones. I choose a method book that is most appropriate for the student. When I work with beginner students, I typically will use a year one method book such as Essential Elements. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
