More than anything music should be fun. The greatest musicians are the ones who enjoy playing music even when they're just practicing. I like to teach in a way that involves asking the student questions in order to get them to figure out the answer for themself, rather than just lecturing the whole time while they start daydreaming! This way the student is more involved in the learning process and it can make their time spent learning an instrument more worth it. Read More

I am a piano teacher with 17 years of teaching experience and a lifelong love of music and people. I work with students of all ages, from as young as 3 years old through adults and seniors, including students in their 70s. I previously performed and played in church settings and have always enjoyed sharing music in ways that bring people together. I currently teach in my in-home studio in Marine City, Michigan, which is a colorful, relaxed, and welcoming space designed to help students feel comfortable and at ease. Read More

I try to cater my lessons to the interest of my students. If a pupil’s passion for music can be harnessed, then developing musical skills can be a simple process. I have a wide variety of material I teach from, including Ted Reed’s syncopation, George Lawrence Stone’s Stick Control for the Snare Drummer and basic piano literature. I also use music selected by the student to create custom lessons. Read More

For very young beginning students, I typically start with Faber Piano Adventures, and for older beginners, the Faber Accelerated Piano Adventures or Hal Leonard Adult Learner Series. Once the student has shown an understanding of basic theory and technique, classical repertoire will be introduced, along with level appropriate arrangements of the student's choice music. It's important that the student is taught how to practice a piece effectively to continue growing musically in between lessons, so that lessons can be used to find areas for improvement, and to learn new concepts and material. I discovered my love for teaching in High School when my fellow students would always come to me for music help or coaching. In college I took our Vocal Pedegogy class and it was the perfect fit. I was so interested in the subject I asked my professors for more and we started the Coker College Community Program together. I have now been teaching for a little over four years and have vocal coached on two major college productions: Spring Awakening 2013, and I Love You, You're Perfects, Now Change. Read More
