I generally use Alfred for piano, both the children's and adult's versions. I use Hal Leonard for guitar. For both violin and double bass, I generally use either Belwin or Essential Elements. For beginner students I start with the basic for both piano and voice. For voice we start with breathing, pitch, and starting a healthy techinque and proper places to sing from. For piano I follow the Alfred's serious and begin with music theory as well. Once my students advance we begin with new solo repertoire and more advance theory and sight reading. Everything stems from the goal(s) set. We work out a plan to reach those goals and a realistic pace to move at. I also leave room for and expect a moving goal post. Inspiration is heavy the more concepts are successfully explored and understood. I expect the best from my students; nothing more, nothing less.
