It's important to me to cater my teaching style to each student. Not all students learn the same way so its not a one size fits all.  Some of my students need more pressure and more practice and want to have more material and others like a more laid back approach. Besides piano, my other emphasis is composition. My senior project was a song cycle using texts from poems by Robert Frost and was scored for soprano, mezzo-soprano and piano.  I received my Bachelor’s degree from UC Davis in Music and Psychology in 2009. As an active member in the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC), I have held numerous positions in the Yolo County Branch. I have recently finished my tenure as Branch President and in the past I have been Recording Secretary and Chair of the Composer's Today Program, a program designed to encourage student composers with an annual recital to showcase their original works. I began teaching private piano lessons in the fall of 2015. I have taught both adults and children, and have found the experience very rewarding, especially with adult learners. I got my own start in music very late, and was actively discouraged in my youth from pursuing it--so one of my main goals as an educator is to motivate students and encourage them that they can still be performers. My teaching style is very flexible. I am able to teach classical, as well as many different musical genres. I am able to arrange piano songs to the student's level and write down the scores from the songs. My ultimate purpose of teaching piano is to make my students ENJOY their performances. However, the key factor in improving piano skills is hard practice.
