I founded my own orchestra called Ensemble 212 in New York and we have received critical acclaim for our innovative programming of works by living composers, exciting interpretations of the standard repertoire, and my own arrangements and transcriptions.        I have studied with several professional, performing musicians, but most of my learning has come from books, magazines and listening. Listening is, quite simply, the best teacher you can have, provided you do it properly. I have played music since age eight, in school bands, jazz bands, blues, and rock bands. In pretty much all my students' lessons I would include fun improvisation activities starting from the first lesson.I've found that pretty much everyone has the ability to improvise to a certain degree or another and that unlocking this activity early in training creates a sense of " familiarity" with music and the piano right away.I found that it's a wonderful way to explore the shapes and sounds of the piano through the experience of music first rather than the theoretical aspects of it. I also played very regularly at Indianapolis's most famous jazz clubs, The Jazz Kitchen and The Chatterbox. After graduating, I moved to New York in July, and am now pursuing a variety of opportunities as a performer and teacher. Here in NYC, I have performed at The Jazz Gallery, Rockwood Music Hall, and some smaller venues around the city. I have a home studio (featuring a gorgeous, state-of-the-art 6' Steinway baby grand piano) in my apartment, but can also travel to students' homes with no complaints. Read More
