My teaching experience dates back to my high school years, as I have 20 years of teaching private lessons, along with 10 years of band and orchestra teaching. Individually, I have taught piano along with band instruments such as flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, saxophone and percussion. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. From working in childcare for over 15 years to being a Montessori pre-school teacher to training adults in different job fields I can teach all age ranges of people. Teaching is something that comes natural to me. Sharing the experience of learning a new skill to mastering it, is very rewarding to me. I enjoy motivating and making a hobby or passion fun and fulfilling for an individual to experience. I am accepting of all and everyone as long as they have a passion for piano and learning the foundations of it! Read More

As stated before, my first goal is to help the student feel comfortable in the lesson. I find that without this, a student will have a hard time succeeding. I myself am classically trained. This is also how I like to train my students. With a classical base training, a student can succeed in any style of music. I like to give the student a combination of a classical song and a current song they love. Read More

I began teaching part-time in 2018, when I took on my first student in my final year at University. Since then, I have made a point to take on students who are eager to learn and excited about music. I have found during my time that every student loves to learn relevant skills that build toward an end goal, and I encourage my students to branch out and try things outside of our lessons to great success! My teaching style is overall fairly laid back. I let my students set the pace, but I also expect them to be passionate, curious, and hard-working. I love to encourage students as they explore different areas of their playing, and try different ideas. I push my students just out of their comfort zone, and force them to take risks. I encourage musical open mindedness, which means I truly think that there is value in all different styles of music. Read More

The ultimate goal that I have for my students is to see that they have the same passion for music that I found when I was at my beginning. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing a student revel in their own personal relationship with music, but to share their love of music, this is paramount. Music is a learned skill, and nothing in life worth doing comes automatic. Pacing and acknowledgements of good work tend to encourage students to continue their hard work. Read More

Much of my lesson plan is specific to the age, experience, desire and ability of the student, but the basics tend to remain the same. I try to craft dexterity and melodic exercises to unite the ear and fingers, while crating a basic understanding of the theory involved, a rhythmic exercise which teaches comping and time, and assign a song to work on between lessons. I refer to this plan as "Theory, Time Tune." This technique was effective when assigned to me and I still use it to guide my own practice. Read More
