For beginning students, we start with simple scales, fingering patterns, short melodies, and based on that student’s needs and learning style, I decide which lesson plan to use (Suzuki, Hal Leonard, etc.). I use Tonal Harmony textbook excerpts to help with advanced theory lessons. More advanced singers receive more training in classical and musical theater technique. My philosophy is that every singer should be trained classically first. I am a very hands-on teacher. We do lots of improvisation and call and response games and sometimes I turn on a record or even bring a guitar to jam with the student. Playing drums is a very visceral, tactile excersize, and I often tell students, "That right there,that is how it's supposed to sound! Memorize that feeling and try to recreate it everytime." Haeyoon is currently a part of the prestigious studio of Aldo Parisot at the Yale School of Music as she pursues her Artist Diploma. She is an avid chamber musician at Yale and in her community as an active member of several chamber groups. Her Yale piano trio has been selected to perform at the prestigious Vista Chamber Concert, after having been selected from several nominated groups throughout Yale. Recently they have also won the Chamber Music Competition held across all intrumentations and performed the Piano Trio in C Major by Johannes Brahms at the Winners Concert in May 2012. Read More
