I started teaching private lessons a little before I started my bachelor's degree, with people who I knew coming to me requesting to be taught. I enjoy teaching and watching musicians grow in their abilities. I like to give a solid base for a beginning musician to build upon while keeping lessons fun and interesting. I incorporate composing and improvising into all of my teaching. My goal is to help my students not only become fluent in the language of music so that they can pursue music as an activity throughout their lives, whether as professionals or amateurs, but also to develop physically and mentally healthy, positive approaches to their practicing and performing. I am fluent in German and have studied French, Italian, Norwegian, and Swedish, so I am also able to coach advanced singers in diction. Read More

My goal is to bring high caliber training to my area, but most importantly to foster a life long passion for music and the arts. Alongside repertoire, I also teach music theory from beginning to advanced. Read More

But when working with beginners, I tend to focus mostly on developing a good internal sense of rhythm and good listening skills. Then if the student wishes, we may specialize in classical, jazz, rock, latin, or whatever style the student is interested in. There are many excelent published methods to choose from and I occasionally assign etudes and excersizes of my own. Read More
