Immediately I'd like to know why the student is pursuing the given instrument, then sort of gauge a level of passion, drive, talent, etc. and then work from there. With guitar and piano there are several routes one could choose for performance, and each one has different teaching fundamentals. Someone who gravitates more toward Jazz will need a very strong base in musical theory, where as someone who wants to play classical might need stronger technical work. Read More

I firmly believe that experiencing music and being inquisitive are invaluable to learning how to play music. Studying music is not just about learning the material and regurgitating it, but discovering why a moment of music is cool and examining what about that moment makes it hit you in the right spot. I will be the guide that the student needs when he or she does not know where to go with his or her studies, but I want to encourage students to bring in music they want to learn, or discuss music that they think is cool and use that as a jumping off point into our lessons. For beginning students, I start with Michael Aaron and Michael Aaron Music Theory books. The beginner students really enjoy these theory books! I also incorporate Fabers Music Adventures into the lessons. As the student progresses, I begin to introduce pieces appropriate for their levels and tastes. Each student learns and progresses individually and I take that into account when suggesting repertoire for them. One student may want a classical piece while another student may want a song by Bruno Mars. Read More

I am a very, very patient teacher, and have a particular affinity for shy and otherwise withdrawn students. I share some of those attributes, so I know instinctively how to work with them. For some of us, music becomes our native language, and it affords entry into the more difficult worlds of social interacton. For more advanced students, I can offer many years' worth of advice on how to prepare for auditions to music academies, conservatories and summer festivals. Read More

Teaching and watching my students grow and develop as musicians is truly a rewarding experience. I help them accomplish their goals by understanding where they are and by setting challenging, fun, and realistic goals for each lesson. I'm a patient teacher who believes in being positive and giving honest and consistent feedback to my students. My goal is to create a disciplined but friendly environment for me and my students where respect and focus are the main pillars of every lesson allowing this way to enjoy the music learning process. Singing lessons will be tailored to the individual student's goals, interests, and experience level, and I encourage all voice students to take initiative when it comes to how they would like to develop as singers, whether that be in pursuit of a performance career, pure hobby, or stress relief. These lessons are broken up into two focuses: the first half of the lesson will focus on breathing and technical exercises, learning to warm up the voice in the healthiest and most beneficial way. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard’s essential elements. Once the students has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what students is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lesson engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I ‘ve also certificated Yamaha Methods and Suzuki Methods when I was teaching in Japan. Read More
