I have been teaching professionally since graduating from Capital University in 2009, and have had the pleasure of teaching individuals of all ages and interests. I've developed a lesson plan centered around building a complete musician, not just a guitarist. Integral to that plan is the development of reading, writing, and improvisational skills. My preferred methodology uses the Alfred series books, as well as the Faber Piano Adventure series as supplemental material. I use a combination of note names and intervals to teach reading skills. I also like to incorporate theory into every lesson. Once we have the basics down, I like the student to tell me what he/she would enjoy playing, and I'll do my best to incorporate that, or something similar to that.  Also, I prefer that the student have access to a real piano rather than a keyboard.
