Dr. Zoe L performed extensively on both the organ and carillon in her original city of Hong Kong, in Canada, and in the United States, where she is currently based. In April of 2017, Dr. Zoe L gave her debut recital at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre where she was interviewed by Radio Television Hong Kong as a "New Music Star. Dr. Zoe L. continues to perform regularly, including at the Organix Festival in Canada, and has given over fifty carillon recitals on the Lurie and Burton Memorial Towers at the University over the past two years. It is a pleasure for me to hear my students progress from their first steps as timid, first-time players to confident and more musically mature young musicians. My students participate in a monthly MDML recital and an annual music test organized by the MMTA. To me it is very important to balance the technical and creative aspects of development. No matter what age/skill level I split time during lessons into activities that develop technique and language, and compositional, creative activities that help each student explore their instrument and what they have to say with it. This balance can be altered depending on the interests of the student or parent. I have been teaching piano for 17 years and have worked with a wide variety of students across many age groups and ability levels. My experience includes teaching young beginners, school-age children, teens, adult beginners, and older adults returning to music later in life. I have taught students with different learning styles, attention spans, and goals, adapting my approach to meet each students needs. Music has been a long-time passion for me since I was a kid. In 2003, I was a 3rd grader in Carpenter Elementary School in Lake Orion learning about the orchestra, when one of the 5th grade students or one of my classmates brought his trumpet with him.
