I performed as a soloist as well as in a variety of ensembles throughout my life including choirs, vocal ensembles, concert bands, wind ensembles, orchestras, jazz bands, and pit orchestras. I was teaching children age from 8-14 at Municipal Higher Education Establishment of Choreographic Arts and also give private vocal lessons to students from age 25-68. I love working with beginners because they are open for new experience and ready to receive information. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Suzuki level books, String Explorer and Fiddletime joggers to increase sightreading and listening skills. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

If a student comes in as a beginner, I will teach them the notes first, then reading on the staff and chords. I try to encourage everyone to learn how to read music, but certain students prefer to learn pieces quicker, in which case I can speed up the process by telling them the notes to play. I constantly ask the students for the piece that they want to play themselves and I encourage them to try them even if they feel like it appears too difficult. Read More

This method is especially helpful when I am teaching very young beginning students. I thrive teaching children between 6-9. I emphasize consistent good practice for a short period of time. I encourage my students to fit their practice in transitional times. Practice after dinner, practice before your homework, etc. for 5-10 minutes. It is consistent good practice that allows you to progress faster rather than long unfocused work. I find my students love this idea and it gives them proper freedom in their practice. Read More
