For young students I use Faber and Alfred books. As well as Famous and Fun books which have popular tunes to help keep the students motivated to practice. My older students work in the standard Hanon exercise book which helps develop agility and evenness in the hands and fingers. I also teach my students all 12 Major and minor scales, arpeggios, and chord progressions. My more advanced students usually learn classical music and Jazz/Blues Rags series by Martha Mier. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Finance and am currently earning an A.A in Jazz Studies at Saddleback Community College and plan to pursue an M.M following completion where I hope to teach K-13 . Most students were sometimes getting good but sometimes they have a hard time playing with difficult notes that I teach. Some students were getting good on the beginning methods and understanding what the music book is going to read and learn about. I encourage the students to practice the beginning methods seriously for about 30 minutes. If the student is getting a little hard, she can take a break for 10 minutes and go back to the homework. I make an individualized curriculum for each of my students based on their learning desires and their talent levels. For beginning students it is important to learn standard techniques such as chords and techniques, I use songs and beginner method books based on a student's learning goals, age, and talent level for lesson materials. For intermediate students I teach sight reading using the Melodic Rhythms for guitar book by William Leavitt and jazz music theory. Read More
