Alongside being an artist, teaching has been a great part of my life.  In addition to my artistic career,  I have had the privilege of having a  dynamic educational career!  My first teaching job dates back to 13 years ago.  Since then, my career has branched out into many facets of the field, both as a classroom teacher and as a private instructor.  I have had the opportunities to work with students of all ages, both in the academic and musical settings.  My current educational stint is that of a special educator who works with children with Autism.  In either setting, it is my goal as a teacher to get the student excited about learning the basics and then building the skills, so that he/she may perform to his/her fullest potential.  Read More

I focus on vocal technique from lesson 1. I listen to the radio plenty, but if there's a popular song on the radio at the moment, it's more than likely being sung in an unhealthy way. Shawn Mendes, Sia, Demi Lovato, Charlie Puth, and Mariah Carey are incredible talents...however they sing in an incredibly unhealthy manner. For beginner students, I typically start with Faber Piano Adventures as it is a very hands-on and interactive way of learning the piano. Once those levels are completed and I determine the student is ready, we move on to more appropriate classical solo repertoire, from various composers, exposing them to every era in Western Classical music, beginning with Baroque through the contemporary period. I have been teaching music for 8 years, starting while in college. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching students from ages 4 to 20 to sing and play instruments because if you're not having fun when you're doing music, you're not doing it right. I love getting to see my students have breakthroughs as they develop their own musical personalities. A book that I use for lip slurs is the Irons book, this book contains extensive exercises for lip flexibility. I also use a lot of exercises that I either learned from other trumpet players, or ones that I made up on my own to target specific things.
