I will start off my lessons with the Bastien Piano Basics course. The student will use a lesson book, a performance book, a technique book and a theory book. Once the student has reached a certain level, they will begin lessons in Piano Literature and John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano. For my beginner students, who are younger, I start off with the Faber series in the Primer levels. After progressing through the first few levels of the series, I then start to introduce solo repertoire depending on the interests of the student. For my older students, we also go through the Faber Adult Piano Adventures book, where we learn the basics of piano along with some fun pieces. I teach more information outside of the book which is not taught until later to get ahead. Read More

My style involves around having a "recital" piece that we work on at all times, as well as technical exercises and different games to increase music theory, rhythm, sight reading, ear training, etc. We set goals and work to accomplish them in a timely manner. I always take time to make sure you as the student are comprehending what I'm explaining to you. Some technical instruction is done with arpeggios, scales, chords, etc., but in general, I try to keep the lesson as interesting as possible so that we can have fun while learning! Read More

My first teaching experiences were with my father during solo and ensemble. Having hired me as an accompanist for his students, I found myself rehearsing these students moreso than accompanying them. From that point I felt encouraged to teach and help others perfect their craft. My biggest influences would have to be my past teachers, one of which taught me younger and the other as I matured. I believe that while learning to read and write sheet music, developing technique and feel, and understanding music theory are all important, the most integral part of learning an instrument - as fundamental as it sounds - is to use your ears!
