If there at level three but haven't touched 16th note triplets and go from there. For beginning students (regardless of age instrument) I try to simplify the approach and work on a set of warm ups/exercises coupled with a performance piece or song that they can feel good about and lots of fun listening assignments. From there I have a few options of instruction methods that I tailor to the individual student. More intermediate/advanced students will not escape from some of the basics (metronome, scales, rudiments etc.) but will be met with many more choices of performance material based more on their individual goals. I have been offering group and private piano classes specialized in teaching beginners(both children and adults) using Mayron Cole's Piano Method for 10+ years in my home studio. I started first by teaching kindermusik for babies and toddlers in a neighborhood church location and a music studio in the Copperfield area, then I opened my home studio in 2004 by offering group keyboarding lessons for many young beginners. For beginner students, i typically like to work with the tried and true Suzuki books, as well as theory practice with Essential Elements for violin, and the Faber books for pianists. I will begin to introduce solo work as skills build, but we will always be working on something that the student genuinely is interested in.
